The Northeast PA Summer Swim League
We are VERY excited to open the 2021 Summer season with a revitalized Summer program.
Thanks to all the participants and the league for helping to get the Summer league started after a one year break.
Please read our mission and meet protocols and send any questions to Matt Stretanski at [email protected] or Rob Gould at [email protected].
Mission
To: promote and support competitive swimming through a regional summer recreation league.
To: give novice and experienced swimmers opportunities to compete in meets that are local, free of charge, and non-team scoring.
To: promote good sportsmanship, positive team support, and positive parental involvement in youth athletics.
Guidelines:
Meets are non-scoring “open” competitions operated under USA Swimming rules.
Meets will run on Meet Manager, using a standardized order of events and seeded by time. Swimmers 10 & younger are seeded Co-Ed.
Swimmers/Events 11 & older are broken down by male & female. Swimmers will represent their age group at championships.
Swimmers’ age up date for the current season is June 1.
All teams must send a TM roster to Rob Gould by June 5.
Swimmers may swim 3 individual and 2 relays per meet and at Championships.
Officials may be of PIAA, YMCA, or USS Certification. All age-groups shall follow all swimming rules. Disqualified races may not be used for championship seed times.
Individual teams will be responsible for awards if desired during the open meets. If desired, teams may present heat winners or age group event winners. The championship host team will use entry fees for awards at championships.
*All meets in “The Summer League” have traditionally been held on Wednesday evenings at league member pools. It is expected that all facilities will have locker facilities, adequate seating, a lifeguard during the entire meet and all appropriate safety preparations.

Meet Guidelines
There are two meet formats: “long events” and somewhat shorter “sprint events”. Meet event lists are separate and will be distributed.

There will be a maximum of 2 heats of the 500 free. Each team is guaranteed 2 entries into the 500 free, and remaining spots will be filled fastest to slowest.
100 yard mixed relays - During the 'Long' meet formats, we will only run the 100 yard free relay (10 and under event), for the benefit of 8 & unders and inexperienced swimmers.
Warm-ups will begin at 4:30pm with three 20 minute sessions – 2 teams per session – host team and teams with least travel time will be assigned the first warm-up. Host team will contact visiting teams with warm-up assignments.
Meets will begin promptly at 5:30 pm.
The host team is responsible for making arrangements for a minimum of two officials with a preference for four: starter, referee and two stroke and turn judges. Most teams have parent officials that can work the meets, but the arrangements should be made ahead of time.
Each team should provide at least 3 timers per meet they attend. There will be a minimum of 2 timers per lane in pools with automatic timing and a minimum of three per lane for pools without automatic timing (most pools use only hand times for 25 yard events. Timers should write down all three times and use the middle time for the official time.
Meet Manager “Lane / Timer” sheets, Back up timers and runners should be provided.
Line-ups will be emailed to the host team contact’s email by 9 pm Monday night before each meet. The host team will send seeded meets to participating teams by the Tuesday evening (6 pm). Meet programs will be available before warm-ups.
A scratch meeting will be held at 5 pm where all adjustments will be made. Attendees will include: lane timers, officials, and coaches. After scratch meeting, the meet will not be reseeded and new programs will not be distributed. Individual events may be reseeded at the discretion of the host meet manager. All host teams will send results and .pdf result files to Rob Gould or current webmaster after each meet.
*Championships:
A Championship meet will be run the last weekend in July 24, 2021. The host of the championship meet will be chosen by the vote of the league’s representatives at the preseason organizational meeting based on the facility available.
The meet will be a Championship meet format which awards points for places and a team champion and runner-up will be awarded for both boys and girls. The host team will present awards to the top eight finishers in each event including relays. Each team will provide four volunteers for timing and preferably one for officiating.
